Vhy should that even be an issue in the first place? You can't possibly tell me your armies still lack energy-based veapons? Certainly your leaders would not send you with a limited amount of ammunition in a place so hostile as this?" questioned Dietrich in surprise. "Harmonic destabilization, quantum fluctuation and toast landing butter-side-down!" Kane replied nonsensically as he started to physically feel the repercussions of his actions. Reality itself was being spun into a yarn, coiling up around the monolith into one fabric, distorting the area. From the outside, it was as if the storm of energy that surrounded the turning tower was descending from the heavens to swallow everything.

That yarn was being lit on fire.

"Okay, if I understand this properly I just started one hell of a chain reaction that should be able to finish itself off...or rebound into something worse than it is already...oh balls; theoretical physics is a scary game." the man thought. He disbanded the stream flowing into Zulu'khan and then bolted through the skeletal frame of the singed tent.

"Time to haul ***!" he called out to Jacob, jets primed to fire.

The barrier had fallen. Promethean Watchers swarmed over the makeshift town, firing on any moving targets they could see. A small troupe of Knights arrived shortly afterward, taking a longer time due to being forced to translocate their way further and further down. Crawlers hopped and skittered their way downwards as well, eager to join in the carnage...

Rebin and Yukari merely sighed at the arguing that was occuring between Dietrich and Damian. Well, atleast they had the time to argue. Yukari, taking a deep breath, decided to have some fun while the two bickered over the APC. Reaching over to the controls of the main railgun, she aimed it and fired it at random, though she failed to realize that it locked onto something before firing. The moment she did this, Rebin shot her a look that said, "What did you just do?" The main reply back was merely a shrug. Who knew, maybe the shot would turn out to be useful... that, and it would probably get both Damian and Dietrich to stop arguing... it was getting annoying.

".....Vhat...ze hell have you DONE?!" said Dietrich, at the end of his fuse at this point, so much so he lacked the composure to keep his accent from slipping into his speech. "Do you have ANY idea how heavily populated this place is?! Shooting at random could get us all KILLED!" he all but yelled. In the brief stretch of silence between that and what was going to be his next statement, a single, low beep sounded on the APC's speakers, indicating a new object was approaching...most likely a living creature. And if the scanners were any indication....it was big...

"You don't have to tell me twice" said Jacob as his cloaking dissolved, his own anti-grav systems shifting to standby mode, though not activating just yet. They would help keep his speed up as he made his way for the exit, which, at this point, he was certain he'd need. Sonar Mapping Systems plotting his course for him, he bolted, making his way for the exit...

Zulu'khan's interferance subsided from Kane's sensors, but now an all new threat encroached as the tether started to collapse on a quantum level. Rift energy was reaching all time highs, filling the very air. Had either of the two men been without their respective protective gear, they too would have found themselves victims of the alien land, morphed by the taint of the rift-world.

Exhaust ports popped up on Kane's shoulders and sides. His redirected jets flared up as Kane broke off into a sprint, the boosters allowing him to reach a respectable speed as he thundered through the ramshackle settlement, building up speed quickly. Once his momentum had been established, the ports flipped back down and his primary thrusters roared to life, blasting straight downwards, resulting in Kane vaulting over the wall of the gear-city...

The Prometheans, either ignorant of the danger or simply uncaring, swarmed through the streets, slaughtering all in their path. A Knight Lancer, spotting the cloaked Jacob through its Promethean Vision, opened fire on him as he sped away, with several Watchers pursuing...

Damian let out a low growl at Yukari. "Godammit Yukari... you don't just go and fire a goddamn RAILGUN randomly! I swear to god, if you-"

Though the scanenrs noted that the original threat's movement seemed to cease, as if struck, the scanners were, instead picking up the motions of something BIG approaching. Not only that, but movement was now being picked up from within the caverns. Certainly, a shot that resounding wouldn't go unheard...

Damian cursed in his head. What a fool he's been.... now, his own unwillingness to fire has led to not only Yukari firing at random, but for not one, but TWO potential threats to hear them.....

Damian took the helm of the APC, and quickly revved up the massive war machine.

"Wonderful. Absolutely ******* wonderful. Well, now we aren't getting the probe, and possibly, the only possible lead to these damned anchors."

The APC soon began to accelerate, heading towards the other end of the canyon.

"Rebin, mark this place down onto the digital map," Damian said. "We'll be back when it's safer to stay..."

Realizing that what she had done had only worsened the situation, Yukari stayed silent, and looked down toward the floor.

Rebin, meanwhile, was now veyr much irritated by what had just happened. Of all the times for her to do something stupid, why now? Hadn't this issue been dealt with years ago with the treatment and medication she had? Apparently, Yukari should have stayed on it for longer... Half of Rebin wanted to strangle her for doing something THAT stupid, and the other half was mentally kicking himself for not bringing said medication in case this happened. "Yes." Rebin stated in as calm as voice as he could as he did as Damian asked him to. One bad thing after another... this was jsut a glorious day for bad news and bad events.

Jacob was in hot pursuit of his armoured companion, an EMP grenade being thrown at the Knight as he retreated, leaping hard as he neared the barrier, vaulting over it with some added support from his arms, the grenade detonating with a brilliant blue flash, all mechanical systems in it's immediate vicinity being disabled instantly, systems fried beyond recovery in most cases, and others damaged to the extent several systems were knocked offline. With a bit of luck, it would hamper the machines' pursuit of them...

A horrific gurgling roar rang out not far from the APC, a large, mutilated Tyrannosaurus-like creature stepping out between a large crack in the canyon wall. Its jaws had stretched somehow, now including a considerable portion of its neck, and bony ridges had formed along it's jaws, forming what looked like extra rows of fangs. black tar-like material wrapped its torso, and slung from where it's arms once were like black slimy tendrils. Bolting after them, the beast bellowed, intent on destroying them, decaying eyes glaring hatefully at them...

"If this trend keeps up, there might be a point where ourselves go the way of those robots!" Kane shouted over the private channel. Just as the grenade overloaded the alien machines, so too would the duo's unique assets fail from the sheer amount of power congregating on the monolith.

"I just called Felicity; so lets haul ***. We're leaving this place fast and hot!"

On cue his jets flared up again, the explorer's hulking armor shooting up over the crevasse. He came down hard against the wall on the other side, his boot-anchors tearing into the metal and making their own holds. The fingers of one metal hand ripped into the wall and crumpled the metal. From there, Kane boosted himself upwards, scaling the wall tens of feet at a time...

Jacob ran close by the armoured scientist, his thrusters and anti-grav generators working in tandem to send him soaring over obstacles, covering considerable ground in moments, the duo quickly making their way to the exit they were bound for...

The walls themselves shook with a fury. Kane thought the monolith was coming down already by how intense the quakes were! But it was not the collapse of the ziggurat that made the intense tremors which rocked the walls. As if attracted to the stricken core, the monsters the machine-man spoke of made themselves known. One by one, gigantic slabs of metal were sent flying from the walls. Dark gray tendrils of alloy slithered from the openings, bridging the immense chasm.

Sliding apart like eyelids, curved plating on the tendrils revealed ruby orbs. From them, beams of crimson light shot out, forming an intricate three-dimensional arrangement for some unknown purpose. Why it happened as the old machine "died" was something Kane wondered about but did not occupy himself with. Instead, he took the opportunity to slip into one of the gigantic openings in the chamber wall...

Jacob followed close behind his companion, having to slash through a tendril of metal as he went to avoid being blocked from his escape, the man leaping out into a roll before jumping back into a sprint, the rumbling structure behind him kicking out massive clouds of dust as it steadily collapsed...

"Awww, crap," Damian cursed aloud. It looks like their prehistoric friend had followed them from before! "Everyone, man their battle stations! We have some company!"

Damian soon began to speed along even faster, rotating the railgun around to face this new threat, before he locked on and fired a quick shot from the massive weapon. Now was the time to get dangerous!

The order was all that Rebin needed to get into action. getting to the turret that was able to hit the mutated rex, he got on and opened fire on it instantly, Yukari, on the other hand, went to a diffrent turret, and aimed, waiting for the Rex to get into range of said turret so that she could fire on it as well... It was a shame the turrets could only shoot in 90 degree arcs... otherwise she'd be bale to nail it as well at the moment.

The floor itself started to shift, the strange cables shooting out of it and weaving in among themselves as if they were some kind of synthetic organism. The cables interlocked to form networks of helices that branched off to form other strange formations. Some of these constructs were beginning to destroy the ziggurat, drilling into its walls and spreading through it like a parasite.

Kane's jets flared up repeatedly as he tore through the rearranging maze, sparks and rubble raining down on him and Jacob. "Running out of time!" Kane said to the cyborg, thoughts racing to formulate the next step in their escape plan. With everything changing or being destroyed, he only saw one last option: make his own path.

He raised his launcher and channeled it's entropic energies into the spiraling blast. It shot out, shearing apart a cluster of silver tendrils and then shredding the section of wall they blocked...

40mm shells spun out of the secondary turret on Hutcherson's VTOL-11, the barrel recoiling into the turret body as it unleashed a fully automatic lead storm into the sky.

"Yo Doc, I know where in a bit of a bad situation here, but could you please try and aim at the damn thing!", screamed the sergeant over the radio.

"I'm working on it, but the cannon just wont lock onto it!", came the irritable reply.

Just then, two KYN-OPS missiles smashed into the flank of the hulking flyer that was chasing the vehicle crew.

Hutcherson pulled up sharply to avoid chunks of the beast, while spitting out, "Uh, good kill, Major."

"Just fly the craft, sergeant," came the short reply.
"Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant."

"They plunder, they slaughter, and they steal: this they falsely name Empire, and where they make a wasteland, they call it peace."

Jacob shot through the opening, armblades activated, a stream of distorted air flowing from one of his wrists as he went, slashing through a tendril that tried to cut off the path, his free hand holding his assault rifle at the ready. As they closed in on what looked like an exit, formed by Kane's blast, a pillar of tendrils began to extend from the ground, writhing together like a giant sentient rope. With a low mechanical roar, the assault Rifle's RCS projector activated, the grenade-launcher extension under the weapon splitting apart and rotating rapidly, a deep purple bolt soaring forward from within the glaring interior of the weapon, striking the pillar just as it began to lean towards the entrance, the tendrils being torn apart by rift energies as arcs of what looked like purple electricity crackled and struck the ground around the impact site, the tendrils being dissolved as the snare sealed the spot where the tendrils were rising from, keeping them down as the Mercenary leapt over it and through the hole in the structure's wall, diving out of the building as the Felicity drifted in for a pickup, airlock door open, the man diving in and rolling, landing in a crouch and turning to face the structure, taking aim as he prepared to shoot down anything that attempted to follow his comrade...

A bellowing roar came from the beast as the rail shot skidded off it's left flank, stopping halfway along as it went through two feet of the black slime that writhed across its sickening form. Snarling, the beast swung its head at the vehicle, tendrils of the slime flailing out, one of them striking an antenna on the vehicle, ripping it clean off the APC and pulling it back, the antenna breaking down until it resembled a blade more than an antenna, the monstrosity attaching it to it's snout, giving it a makeshift nosehorn as it charged towards them, groaning as it bled where it's skin was exposed enough for a hit, but otherwise shrugging off the lighter gunfire...

The sound of Kane's thrusters blended with the screeching of Felicity's three engines, the darkness of the improvised passage lighting up with yellows and reds; the orange mech-suit soaring out of it seconds later. Kane swung his legs forwards as he came down in the airlock, touching down with a loud thud. The metal panels slid downwards, overlapping before bobbing back up much like the suspension of a vehicle, dispersing the impact so well that Kane never felt it inside his suit.

"Job well done!" he said to Jacob, but before he could celebrate a red triangle appeared on his HUD, flashing in alarm. Kane turned around, the triangle strafing across his field of view before stopping dead center on the monolith, marking...something. "What in the h-" Kane muttered, his eyes widening as he saw what the tendrils were forming bust out of the ziggurat. Rubble of stone and metal rained down in the storm of violent rift energy.

It was a gigantic arm, somewhat insectoid in appearance. It was slender with red nodes at the joints, three fingers which ended in humungous sickle claws. It was almost as large as the tower which spun on top of the pyramid. It towered straight into the sky, the light of the double suns glinting off of its obsidian claws.

"...Sweet jesus." Kane said flatly.
