Texas Chainsaw Massacre Franchise

The first Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released in 1974 and was directed by Tobe Hooper. The film is very gritty and feels like your watching a documentary. The cinematography is gritty and realistic, it looks amazing. The acting is actually pretty good, especially by the family of cannibalistic serial killers. The film is a horror icon and a must see.

I also found the second film very entertaining, I liked it's dark sense of humor. I also think Chop Top is funny as hell

I watched the first movie. I liked it mostly because it focused more on suspense and less on violence to create scares.

Suspense is what makes a good horror movie IK and TTM is full of it if I remember correctly

It also left the gore up to the imagination, it didn't show you anything but it made you think you saw a lot more then you did. It's the old saying less is more. Thats why this movie is a classic

Why are horror movies these days almost impossible to make this good? Have directors just given up?

@ Galaxia: People have a hard time finding the line between "Scary" and "Disturbing". Scary is like The Omen. Disturbing is like The Thing (except The Thing is actually GOOD).

because directors today think that gore makes a movie scary, when you actually need suspense to make it scary. Movies like The Thing are gory and scary because it was also suspenseful

The Thing was a perfect mixture of all in my opinion,TCM got it just right where they were going for too

Very True, but they had to remake it. Why do they remake all the classics? To me a classic is perfect as it is

Remakes are just a way to make money really,regardless of how badly they can actually ruin the movie.Very few remakes are faithful to the original

It's all about the money, greedy ********. the two remakes that were actually good were The Fly and The Thing. Besides that most remakes suck. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was pointless. It was to polished looking. it didn't have the grittiness of the original. The new actors weren't convincing, the only person who I thought did a good job was R Lee Ermey who played Sheriff Hoyt. I thought his character was pretty good. But besides that everything else was mediocre

Money makes the world go round as they say LV, unfortunately instead of putting any effort into a film they decide a remake or a sequel to an already existing franchise is in order to make a fast buck with minimal effort put in to it

hopefully one day they'll make another good Texas Chainsaw Massacre, maybe Tobe Hooper could direct it

Not true. That's the rating Tobe Hooper (the director) was hoping to get by cutting down on the gore, but it was still rated "R" by the MPAA.
