I haven't been around in about half a million years either. So, hi all. :P

Just thought I'd drop in to let anybody interested know that I posted a question on the RPGT Steam group forum. I don't figure it gets much traffic, seeing as the last things posted there are from 2012. (Probably should have just posted it on RPGT itself. Derp.)

Merp for now.

Huh. Yeah, it seems Steam doesn't try to notify you about posts to groups. And considering navigating steam community is horrible, it's not surprising that people don't manually check it.

Just had a look at it there; there's a subscribe to forum button that should enable notifications. It'd be cool for people to use that, most of us are on steam most days, so it'd be pretty easy to get a message out.

Regarding Eurotruck shenanigans, I would be a completely up for trucking about the place, but I don't have a copy, and I can't see myself picking it up until I get a hold of a steering wheel at some stage. The idea of trucking about with arrow keys is, quite frankly, laughable. :P

Oh, I never noticed the subscribe to forum button! Handy. It seems like it would make more sense to enable that automatically when you join a group. Meh.

Driving with keys is... interesting. I don't have a wheel either, but my flight yoke works well enough, mostly. It's better than keys, anyway. XP

Watched a video of the G-rank version of the Ancient Rathian in MH Frontier G. That beast may just be on par with G-rank Crimson Fatalis in terms of difficulty once she reaches her full level of rage mode. Her hipcheck attack that lets her move backwards several feet and hit those behind her is perhaps her most surprising new move.

Is there a name for the cliche where the to buy the group time, one protagonist decides to take on the evil horde or stronger enemy all by him/herself, typically dying in the process? I'm looking for the best examples of it in stories for something.

Heroic sacrifice?

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
— John 15:13

A character saves another/others from harm and is killed, crippled, or maimed as a result.

There are essentially three kinds of Heroic Sacrifice:

The one at the beginning of the story, which sets the tone for the rest of the tale.

The one in the middle of the story, wherein the Heroic Sacrifice leads to new heights of Bad ***, or new depths of depression, in the characters who are affected by it (depending on the story.) Sometimes both.

The one at the end of the story which serves as a Grand Finale, an example of "This character is Too Cool to Live", or the kernel of a Downer Ending or Bittersweet Ending. The "Too Cool to Live" Heroic Sacrifice is the most common type in American movies. Often, The Hero Dies in a heroic sacrifice at the end.

- TV Tropes

You Shall Not Pass also applies.

I could try driving with my flight stick, but without pedals I'd probably end up crashing every 2 seconds

Hmmm... I suppose if you wanted you could try mapping the breaks to the trigger, but it wouldn't be very smooth, (unless maybe your stick has another slider other than throttle somewhere?) Or you might set the gas to a button and the breaks to the throttle, (which sounds awkward to use.) I've never tried either one of those though, so I have no idea how well they'd work. Trigger for breaks in flight sim works well in bursts, so I'd guess it probably would in ETS...
