James oddly started to laugh. the crew looked at him, and he said "It's dead! it's dead! they cant take me back to the Locker again!" he exclaimed cheerfully...

Adeline looked at James like he was crazy or something? "But James...it..." It was difficult for her to try to form words. Finally, she asked the question. "Who did it?"

James said "Only one thing capable of doing that....Davy Jones". he grinned. he had been forced to do the ultimate action. this proved he was entirely at the command of the East India Trading company. and James began to think of how he may turn him against them....

"Davy Jones...but why would he kill his own pet?" Adeline started to think about it. She was confused about James' grin, then again, this was the creature who sent him to the locket in the first place. "What are we going to do now?" She noticed that the Black Pearl was starting to anchor and Jack and the others were preparing to go ashore...

"well, we'll drop Anchor on the other side of the island. i'll send a landing party to see if they can find any fresh water". James steered the ship so that it was on the other side of the island, and dropped anchor there. he walked up to his First Mate, Nathan, and said "Make sure you check the water first". Nathan nodded, and the landing party went. James went into his cabin to sharpen his swords and clean his dagger...

Adeline said nothing, and didn't follow James in the cabin. A part of her was still saying go to Eric, but another part of her was saying no and let him rest. She decided to listen to the part that said don't do it and went into James' cabin. She saw him sharpening one of his swords. "Do you want any help," she inquired.

James grinned. "If you're in the mood to help, yes please. the faster i can get these ready, the more well prepared i'll be if anything happens". James had sharpened his sword to a razor edge. he had cleaned his pistol recently, but now he had to replace the powder. his dagger needed polishing as well...

Adeline smiled, took one of the swords, and helped James begin to sharpen it. There was silence between the two captains as they were concentrating on their work. While sharpening the sword, Adeline was busily thinking about the future. Will she still be married to Eric or will she find a way out of it. She decided to ask James about it. "James, how would you feel if I left Eric?" Her eyes were on the sword.

James looked up from his work for a moment, a glint in his eyes. he said "Well, dont force yourself to do something you dont want to because of me. but...if you really wanted that, i'd be delighted". he didn't feel the need to hide any feelings anymore. he was sincere about it now...

Adeline shrugged, still focusing on her work, but she could feel James' eyes on her. At this and at his answer, she smiled. "Forcing? Hm, I wouldn't say forcing, James. It's more like..." She trailed off, trying to find the right word. When she found one, she continued. "Helping out. You know that I do not love Eric. Sure, I may care for him, but I do not love him."

James said "Well, we still have the gold. it's all here, in fact, it's been put into a special area in my cabin. it was the only cargo that wasn't let loose. mine, yours and Yuke's shares are all here. as soon as our whole fight ends, we will split it between us. my share will be enough to buy you a new ship and arm it, if you wish to have your own ship. your share should go to your father, and that'll pay for his debts, breaking one of the main bonds holding you with Eric. after that, everything else is up to you". James knew there was plenty of treasure in the seas, and he had heard rumours of an ancient Incan treasure more valuable than any piece of gold or gem. losing the money he had to help Adeline would, in the end, help them all...

"Aw, James you don't have to do that. That's so nice." The only problem Adeline had now was how else was she going to get out of the marriage with Eric. He would never let her go. She was like a songbird, trapped in a cage for his enjoyment. "His little songbird." She made a face at the pet name that he gave her. "A songbird that is unable to fly free," she mumbled.

James said "There's plenty of gold out there, love. plenty enough to get me back what i lost. your life of freedom isn't as easy to regain though. i think i'd rather give you something replacable rather than lose someone i think is irreplacable to me". he put his hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently, before returning to his cleaning...

Tears were starting to form in her eyes at what James said. "Aw t-that's...oh James." She smiled lovingly and continued on with her work until the sword looked sharp enough to cut through bone. She went to work on another sword, small tears of love starting to drip.

James grinned. he passed her a cloth to wipe the tears."Here, maybe this'll help". his eyes still had that smae loving glint in them. he continued to polish his dagger and sharpen it. after he was done, he sheathed it, and went over to a large gunpowder bag he had in one of the cabinets in the quarters. he removed a small amount to arm his pistol. once it was armed, he put it in his belt. he then grabbed his first sword; a gift from his father, funnily engraved with RUM on one side, and FREEDOM on the other. he began to sharpen the blade, watching Adeline as he did so...

Adeline wiped away her tears with the cloth and continued sharpening the second sword, not saying anything. She was fully concentrated on the craft of sharpening. Gentle forward motions were made as she sharpened it. "Once I get out of the marriage with Eric...what then? Just run to be together with James? Or perhaps..." She looked up from her work to look at James for a minute. The minute their eyes met, Adeline couldn't help but stare into them. Lovely, handsome eyes...

James looked up at Adeline and grinned. he put his hand on her cheek. "You might want to stop sharpening the blade if you're not watching it" he suggested, his voice barely over a whisper. he seemed to get lost in Adeline's eyes, the deep brown of them almost mesmerizing him. he had drowned in the depth of her eyes, looking into the warm, kindly soul behind them, transfixed...

Her heart was beating faster, like before. Her eyes never left his. Was this going to turn into another...deep inside, she was hoping that it would. She stopped her work and the two started to go close to each other again. Then the flame suddenly ignited into another kiss, this one a little more tender and loving than the other.

James embraced Adeline as the two connected, both suddenly lost, time meaningless to them, previous work ignored. James' heart beated fast enough to put most military drummers to shame, as they two held eachother in their arms...

Adeline didn't want the kiss to end. Her eyes closed, and again her arms went around his neck. It was almost like her heart was threatening to rip out from her as it beat faster. But eventually, it would have to come to an end. This time, Adeline broke it to find herself in James' lap. At this, she didn't care and laid her head against his chest to hear his heart beat. She sighed in complete content and closed her eyes again at the sound of his beating heart...
