"O-Oh yes, that," said Adeline with a yawn coming out of her after. She sighed and lay her head on him, closing her eyes. "You've decided..." sang a voice in her mind. At this, Adeline's eyes snapped opened. She looked around the room to only find it was still only her and him. A shiver went through her. Not that again, she didn't want that to return now!

She gazed up at James and put on a faint smile. Her own eyes held fear, worry, but love too. What should she say? "Maybe we should get some rest," said Adeline, trying to change the subject. She didn't want to talk about the voice again. "Adeline, Adeline..." it called, trying to beckon her away to another place. "Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams..." She bit her lip. "I have a request to make, that is, if you don't mind." She played with the fabric of her skirt. "Can you stay with me for the night?"

James agreed. "we do need sleep". James fell silent for a moment of thought as he heard Adeline's request, and finally nodding as he said "if you wish", and walked down to the cabin...

Adeline smiled. "Thank you." The voice in her head was still singing. "I'll always be there singing songs in your head..." She shivered again. She looked back at the door. Maybe she should...no. If she returned to him it will get worse, or will it go away? She thought about the mood Eric was in before she left. There was need in his voice, but she also remembered that he was angry with her. She would be safer here. She followed James. Safe...

James walked down, and was finally in the Cabin. he went over to a large square chest in the corner, and put his effects on it. inside the chest, which was locked tight, were 3 smaller chests, each one holding one million in gold. he took off his belt, which held the sheath to his sword, the strap across his chest which held 2 pistol holsters, a small pocket that held his spyglass, and another which held his compass...

Adeline stood, looking around the room. She was rubbing her shoulder and looking at James. She finally decided to admit it to him. "It's coming back." Her voice held fear in it.

James eyed Adeline for a moment, trying to figure out what she meant. then he remembered th conversation about voices. he walked up to her and held her close for a moment, whispering "Cold, taunting voices, cruel, hateful words, they're nothing to a strong, steady heart. they can plague you as much as they wish, for they can do NOTHING. do not pay any attention to them. they are POWERLESS". he had whispered this to himself when he was young. it helped him forget and ignore the hateful words that kept haunting his mind at every moment, waking or otherwise. he led her over to the bed, and sat down, her by his side, as he occasionally repeated those words, trying to get it to stick in her mind...make sure she couldn't forget it soon...

Adeline closed her eyes tight, trying to let James' words sink into her. The voice was still trying to get its hold on her. "Eric...no. You will stop," she thought. "Secretly possess you, secretly...secretly..." the voice sang back, louder. "No you won't." Her hands clung on to his shirt. She buried her head into his chest. She looked like a frightened child after a nightmare, wanting to be comforted.

James held Adeline close, and whispered "Powerless, pathetic and weak. that voice cannot harm you. cannot weaken you, cannot TOUCH you. it is but a mere shadow in your mind. face it. fight it. erase it and forget it, for it is NOTHING"...

"I-I am trying," whispered Adeline. James' voice was starting to weave its way into Adeline's mind. "Powerless, pathetic and weak. I can fight this. I...can...fight...this." The voice was starting to fade as James' comforting voice grew louder. Her frightened shakes started to subside. She took in relaxed breaths. "It will not harm me, James is here. I am safe." An image of Eric started to show up in her mind. He had gloved hands and wore the mask. There was a smirk on his face. "Come my angel, sing my angel." She started to shake again. "Only a shadow, cannot harm me," she thought repeatedly, trying to drive that image of him singing away. It was fading into nothingness. "He's going away," she whispered. "He is starting to fade."

James whispered "Good. just keep reminding yourself. powerless. weak. incapable of anything but words. it has no power over you. it's but a shadow. cannot harm you, cannot come any closer to you. you can crush it. all you need....is confidence. what is a voice in your mind, but a mere thought to be forgotten? try as it might, it can NEVER take power over you. it can never prevail over your judgement, your thoughts, your strength. a steady heart and a focused mind can force anything into oblivion. dont let that voice posess your mind. dont let it haunt your dreams. do not let it bother you. you can fight it, crush it and force it into oblivion. all you need, is determination...and confidence"...

Adeline silently nodded and tried to relax. The voice was soon gone from her mind, only to be replaced by comforting words. She sighed in relief. She didn't move from her spot. "I'll try," she said softly. "J-Just don't leave."

James said "I'll always be right beside you. i'll never leave you. as long as i breath, as long as i live, as long as blood courses through my veins, i'll be right by your side". he held her close, whispering the words quietly, almost unhearably,

Adeline was starting to fall asleep with James' words echoing in her mind. A soft smile appeared on her face. "Always," she repeated and snuggled closer to him. Her breathing became more relaxed. Her tight grip on his shirt started to lessen. Sleep finally took over her...

"Always" he said reassuringly, as the two lay on the bed. James pulled up the covers to cover them, and finally let himself drift to sleep, his armed pistol by the bed, just in case...

The next day James got up early, as usual, his mind still clouded. he could feel something behind him in the bed, and looked over his shoulder to see Adeline. the memories of the previous night came rushing back into his mind, and he got up, stretching and putting his boots on, and walking over to the chest, and putting on his effects. he then walked up to the Quarters, and grabbed himself a bottle of weak Ale, and went back down, sitting on the edge of the bed while he sipped it...

Adeline yawned and curled into a ball, the covers securely around her. She didn't want to get up. She was enjoying her sleep. She was a happy girl in dreamland. Her eyes slowly started to open, but closed again tightly, not wanting to let any light in them. She groaned and pulled the covers over her head. "Five more...minutes," she murmured and let out another yawn.

James chuckled and tugged gently on the covers. "Wakey wakey, Adeline. it's a bad habit to sleep in. say 5 minutes and you'll be here for 5 hours" he said playfully, the whole time taking swigs from his bottle of Ale...

Adeline tried to pull them tighter over her. She was not going to give in to that voice that was trying to wake her up. "No," she groaned again.

James sighed. "Didn't want to, but suit yourself" he said, a note of regret in his voice about what he was about to do, but at the same time, having a mischievous grin on his face. he walked up into the cabin, and came back down with a metal jug filled with cold water. he sighed as he tilted it over Adeline's resistant sleeping form, emptying it's cold contents over her...
