James sighed, and said "You worry about voices and yet you're so willing to go right to their source. you'll only face more trouble at that rate"...

Adeline closed her eyes. So it was about what happened earlier. How could she explain herself? In the beginning, she was being drawn to him and that voice. "I, I don't know what happened." Wait, what was she saying? She did know what happened. She failed to resist that voice. "I mean, it's the real thing out there."

James said "Well, think about it. what's so different between the voice you hear and the voice you hear when Eric is REALLY there? the difference is his actual presence"...

Adeline thought about it and started to come to a realization. What was it about his presence that draws her to him? What did she call him again? "My angel," she whispered. "I used to call him that when everything was different, before I knew about his temper and his past."

James raised an eyebrow at that realisation. "And how do you think that effects how you feel when in his presence?"...

Adeline was getting scared by these realisations and didn't want to continue further with them. "I- He used to be sweet in the past and my protector. I always liked the good side of him." What was that feeling that came over her when she heard that voice? "I felt...it was like some kind of a trance that I didn't wish to get out of. I feel at peace. I told you earlier that I both hate and like that voice."

James said "Unfortunately, his bad side rules him. thus far, i have never seen him happy, and have never seen him treat anyone other than Raphael with respect, and even in that case, it's only because he's scared of becoming Raphael's next meal. trances are caused with 2 things. sound, and eye contact. if you can see him, it'll happen. if you only hear him, it wouldn't work as well. if, as was the case today, can only see him, that would be enough to "entrance" you, as it were. if you hadn't been staring at him while you were singing, what happened wouldn't have"...

Adeline hated herself for doing such a thing today. She was so stupid, walking up to him obediantly with her eyes staring into his own. It was like she was his pet! But near the end while she was with Eric, she came out of it, and thought of an idea. She was going to plan tonight to talk to him, but there was a problem with that. They would be gathering with the Brethren Court. She couldn't attend her so called singing lesson. "How am I going to get out of the singing lesson with him? He said eight o' clock tonight, but we also have the meeting with the Brethren Court."

James thought for a moment, thinking about how to solve this particular problem. James said "As a pirate captain, you have no choice. your presence is demanded at the court, being, in a way, linked to a Pirate Lord. im the heir to Lordship of the Caribbean, and, you being a friend of mine, you are connected to the Lordship and therefore demanded to be present. so Eric cant say no and cant stop you from going"...

Adeline sighed in relief and smiled. "Ok, that works." But deep inside, she was worried how Eric was going to react when she didn't come for her eight o' clock lesson. She didn't want to face him again, but she also didn't want to experience his anger. The frown returned and she looked down at her folded hands. "I am sorry James, for what happened today."

James waved a hand at her apology, and said "Don't bother apologising. emotions are difficult to fight, especially when someone is deliberately doing things to MAKE you feel them. if you like, i could tell Eric personally about you needing to be at the court, and how lower ranking crew are not permitted to enter. the only one who will be with me from this ship, besides you, is Raphael, since he is my bodyguard"...

Adeline looked up. "Are you sure? I mean, what if he gets angry about it?" She didn't want James to get yelled at because of something she was too afraid to do herself. "I have an idea, how about Raphael tells Eric about it?"

James said "Don't worry. im sure he'll understand. and besides, when i tell him, he'll still be with Raphael"...

Adeline sighed. "I hope you know what you're doing." She was still unsure about James going up to Eric and speaking to him. "How about we just...um, stay here or try to sneak off? I mean, he'll forget about it, right?" She knew Eric better than that though. He has a good memory.

James shrugged. "I think that sneaking off will only make him get more irritable, not to mention ratty"...

"Fine, fine. We'll do it your way then," said Adeline, finally accepting her loss. "You win."

James chuckled as he said "It's up to you, Adeline. im just suggesting the best possibility from my point of view. you know him better than me. how do YOU think he'll react?"

"I think he will most likely get angry. You know how much he doesn't like you." Adeline sighed at this. "But if Raphael is around, then he will probably hold his anger and wait until he is alone in his cabin to yell curses and the like." She chuckled a little as she imagined it. "You see, the point of the singing lesson tonight was to try to talk some sense into him."

James shrugged. "Eric doesn't know angry. he knows hatred causing anger, but not REAL anger. He hates me, but cant do a thing to me on my own ship, or off of it. the worst he can do is yell and that i've taken so much of in my childhood i've learned to let it wash over me. so, in a way, he cant do a thing to me. Raphael will be around, but not right next to me. he'll be sticking to the shadows, just watching from a distance" he said. when Adeline mentioned the point of the singing lesson, he said "Are you sure, Adeline? with a temper like his, who knows what he'll do"
