Serephir nodded interestedly. "Hmm....I remember Gladiatorial fights being customary back when the Sardanian Empire ruled. they had different kinds of fights.
the 'Maslukha', or, for lack of a better translation, Slaughterhouse Fight, was named such because it usually involved unarmed men and ferocious animals. the people chosen in these fights were most often rebels who had been captured and kept alive, solely for these events.
then there was the 'Hisab' fight, or Judgement fight, named because it was used to judge the fate of prisoners who the Emperor deemed worthy of being given a chance at redemption, usually due to admiration of their determination or strength, which, with the right tools, could be turned to serve him. it was a 2 round battle that started out with the man against a Sibator, a feline creature with massive claws, venomous fangs and a reptilian tail, armed only with a sword, a spear and some very low grade leather armour that was all but useless. the second round would be to pit the fighter against Officers in the Sardanian Army. the Officer was typically armed with whatever sword he had been granted upon promotion to his current rank, while the Gladiator typically was given a standard, somewhat blunt saber. it cut with alot more difficulty than most Officers' blades. the people chosen for these fights were usually either soldiers who refused to follow orders or otherwise disrupted the Army's movements and operations, or citizens who helped the rebels and resistence. there was a fine line between them, and the ones put into the Slaughterhouse Fights. it was rare that anyone would make it to the final round. it was all but unprecedented that the gladiator succeeded in the final round. it was mostly just the way to sate the Sardanian religion's thirst for blood. I was a survivor of one of these fights, thrown into it because of my prior support for the resistence. i had caused such serious damage that the Emperor saw fit to assign his most skilled and capable Commander as my opponent" he explained, almost lost in his memories. it was the first time he had gone through a full recount of what had occured to him back then, most of it having been lost due to what had happened next...
"Ah yes, organised chaos. the sign of a clever but ever-busy mind. To the perpetrator, a carefully woven web of belongings and intrigue, but to the bystander? Madness!"
