Darkfire swirled around The Phoenix, and shot at the remains of the PQ, destroying its dead body completely, and leaving behind some ashes. At that, the forcefields around the walls disappeared, the roof opening like a dome stadium's.
The Phoenix wrapped its wings around the front and sides of its head and body, and began to spin, before disappearing, warping out of the battle arena.

I think that was a pretty good fight; I cant say a lot about it, as it's my first time in this, but yeah.
I think you had the PQ discover The Phoenix's fatal weakness a little too late (that being the fact that just hitting the bird once with acid would destroy it completely), and that was your downfall. If you had exploited that earlier, you could have used it somehow in combination with the sub-sonic blasts from PQ's tail to win.

I knew that Fire+ Acid = big boom. That was what I utilized in my last fight here in the Sparring Ring. it's just the fact that the Phoenix did the freaking dark mist thing that prevented me from utilizing it...

That's what I'm saying. You should have just started off by going on the offensive, and using that, before the dark mist came into play. I used that because Phoenix would get its *** kicked if it was physical, hand-to-hand combat, another one of its weaknesses.
I think it may have been kinda cheap of me using something with fire weapons when that's one of PQ's weaknesses, but I didn't know that at the time, so sorry.

EDIT: this particular fight got rated because.... Kp told me too? I'm glad he did though.

Good fight guys, one sided though. while through attacks and general combat, you were even, EE vastly out manoeuvred you Gira, and had the tactical advantage. Some characters utilize their environment, the Phoenix changed the Environment to suit itself. The Dark mist was a very good idea, I enjoyed your style EE. However, I felt the Phoenix's ability to warp was un-necessary and went a bit too far. With the cover of the mist and some good speed, the Phoenix should have been able to maintain the same effect.

Gira, your lose was pretty inevitable from the start. EE's style of fighting was based on control, manipulating the battlefield as well as you in order to give him the advantage. Control is one of the best ways to win a fight, because if you can control the enemies options, you can plan counters easily.

seeing as your first move was to let the Phoenix attack first, you played right into the hands of this tactic. Offence is crucial to control. This is why they say offence is the best defence. While defending, you are always reacting, the enemy is dictating your actions. Waiting for the enemy to attack first generally only works if you have anticipated all possible attacks. While you achieved this to some extent with anticipating the ranged darkfire attack, it put you at more of a disadvantage than an advantage in the long run. You gave a way a valuable advantage.

This was an interesting fight over all. Many fights result in over aggression, such as combo spamming, which is eventually it's downfall, in this fight however, there was very little direct conflict, it was much more tactical.

A breath of fresh air.

I do have a few particular things I want to mention though, post wise;

The Phoenix was visible in the PQ's eyes for a brief moment; the bird seemed to be aiming for the head of the Queen, until, seconds before impact, it disappeared, warping, and appearing below the PQ once more, smashing it in the chest, and sending it flying backwards into a wall...

I didn't like this attack. it lasted too long. PQ should have been given an opportunity to move during that. Your move would have worked against a slower character, but against PQ, it leaves too long a gap which assumes the PQ is sitting on her *ss.

The Phoenix, using its telekinesis once more, caused the piece of ground the PQ was standing on to crack off, and lift up, carrying the PQ. It tilted and slammed backwards into the wall, sandwiching the PQ in between...

EE again, I thought this was over the top. Being able to pick up the PQ using Telekinesis is going too far. God modded IMO.

The Parasite Queen, seeing her chance to strike the bird, fired off another sub-sonic blast, this one blasted the oncoming flames away, then spiraled upward, striking the Phoenix in the back, forcing the bird to crash land on the ground, where the PQ could see it

Gira this time. This was unfair. You can't just say "oh it hit the ground." Thats assuming The Phoenix lost all control, underestimating it's capabilities. From what I saw of the fight, the Phoenix would have been well capable of recovering from the strike in mid air. Remember that it's largely up to the defender to decide the extent of the damage.

EE, I you were singled out twice simply because of the complexity of your strategy, it was much more open to abuse, and I say that with all credit to you.

2nd Edit: While I'm at it, wtf is with acid+fire causing explosions? :?

re: edit 1: I just asked whether I should move on to my fight with G4E, or wait to see if someone comments on this O.o
re: edit 2: I dunno, but apparently it does, and I just went with it =p
Maybe there's like... explosive/flammable chemicals in the acid?

Anyway, about the rest of your post, yeah I guess I did go too far with some of those. It didn't seem like god-modding then, but reading back, I suppose it was. As for the warping, I just took that from the ewar, but I can remove it from its abilities if its powerplaying.

Also, the battle had to be tactical. If it were physical, as I said, the Phoenix would have had nothing on the PQ.

For that first quote you commented on, I was envisioning The Phoenix flying at an extremely high speed, almost a blur, when that happened, so it would've happened in a few seconds. I guess I'm not good at putting throughts/plot ideas into text.
Oh, and all that was happening when the whole room was shrouded by the black haze, and Gira hadnt said anything about the PQ moving around. The Phoenix would have only been visible to the PQ at the last moment, when it was very close to it, and that's when it warped.

I'm also surprised you didn't quote the psychokinesis, if just slamming the enemy into a wall is godmodding, would that be as well? Also, the second time it picked up PQ?

and lastly, what exactly do you mean by "with all credit to you"?

New match!!!

Shredder vs Gothmog
Location: Isla Sorna

Gothmog, the monstrous brown Giganotosaur, eyes his Spinosaur foe hungrily. His hate for Spinosaurs has blinded him of the possibility of this creature not wanting to fight...... however, Gothmog cared no longer. His thirst for Spinosaurid blood got the best of him. The Giga roars before taunting his foe to attack........

Shredder would have been fine with the dinosaur standing in front of him, had it not stepped in his territory, after being warned not to.
Shredder backed up slightly, standing directly in front of four trees, clustered together.
The camouflaged spino taunted his enemy. He growled, "Make a move, big guy. What's the matter?"

Q

Postby Doc 42 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:59 pm

With all credit to you, means that it's a good thing. Even if it made you open to making more mistakes.

Like it's better to do something new and get it slightly wrong than do something old and boring and get it perfect.

Oh, and all that was happening when the whole room was shrouded by the black haze, and Gira hadnt said anything about the PQ moving around. The Phoenix would have only been visible to the PQ at the last moment, when it was very close to it, and that's when it warped.

Yes, but your post isn't just the period when it's very close to PQ, there was a longer period before then, the PQ may have decided to do something in that time. the problem with long attacks is that it becomes harder to predict what the enemy will do. If you do it all in one post your cheating that aspect of it. Which isn't fair.

Also, the psychokinesis, crushing something, especially at that stage of the fight, is fair enough. If you'd opened with "HAHA! I CRUSH YOUR TAIL!" It would have been different. Also, just as with exams, you don't get marked down for the same mistake twice, so I only quoted one of them. I felt it was god modding, because you didn't just chuck him at a wall, or hit him with a force blast, you picked PQ up, which is very different. If you can pick her up, it implies you can restrain her with Telekinesis alone, which prevents her from moving, ala, allows you to run riot.

A final note on warping, try to restrict abilities to what your character needs. Its a bad habit to just equip yourself for everything, and you'll notice it happening to even Admins. It can leave you very suspectible to god modding. It's generally better to work out how you can use what you already have to approach a situation instead of just adding new abilities and traits on.

As the other fight has already started (kinda rudely) this is the last comment.

Gothmog smiles. He had seen this trick before. However, Gothmog draws his foot slowly, as if preparing to charge.........

Gothmog suddenly charges forward, barreling over smaller trees as he lowers his head to ram the spinosaur........

Instead of backing away as expected, Shredder stepped forward, going into Gothmog's ram. The spino turned slightly, and swept his tail under the charging Giga, tripping him toward the trees behind him...

Gothmog snarls, getting to his feet quickly, the giga shaking his head. As he rises up, he gives his Spinosaurid foe a whack across the face, making him stumble.

Shredder fell forward slightly in his stumble. Using that to his advantage, he ducked under Gothmog, and jerked his head upwards, the top of his skull hitting Gothmog's lower jaw, damaging one of his most useful weapons: the ability to bite. In doing so, Shredder pushed Gothmog backward slightly, felling two trees...

The giga lumbers back a bit before doing a strange, lunge-charge attack, slamming his head into Shredder's arm, a slight crack being heard, signalling a fracture of the spinosaurid's bone...............

Shredder snarled in pain as his forearm cracked, but was able to get a scratch off on the giga's face. He tested his fingers and wrist; his arm was still useable, and useful...

Shredder saw an opportunity; he quickly ducked the tail whip, and lunged forward, biting down on the exposed flesh of the enemy dinosaur's left calf, and tearing muscles. He forced the dinosaur leg forward, causing the rest of the giga to stumble forward, and trip over the tree it had upturned earlier, landing hard on it's stomach, fracturing ribs...
