The two siblings had come to a halt and were silent for a few moments before Rhojis finally took in a deep breath and spoke with a tone of forced calm. "Let me put it this way... It's not what I did that bothers me... more like what I didn't do." He paused, but Sylicora said nothing, nodding slowly, stiffly at him with a look of suppressed dread in her yellow gaze. "I was hunting with Dad... If I'd only tried harder, maybe things would have been different... but... I ran and hid instead..." "F-from... what?" hissed Sylicora, sounding oddly strangled. "A Spi... Spinosaur..." Rhojis felt his sister's gaze as she stared unblinkingly at him, but didn't look up. "It wanted our kill, and he didn't want to give it up... we were starving... So we kinda... got into a fight and..." He faltered, running his hand down his neck again, claws digging into his skin. "Oh, no..." Sylicora breathed, eyes growing wide, jaw going slack. "You don't mean... Please don't tell me he-" "And there was nothing in the world I could do to stop it!" Rhojis burst out, voice cracking as the horrible memories overwhelmed him. Blood and agonized screaming and the sound of that one terrifying, crushing footfall... As Rhojis finally looked up, Sylicora stepped backward, staring at her brother through clouded eyes that were filled with more shock, pain and horror than he'd ever seen. Her mouth moved, but she seemed unable to make a sound. It took a few moments that felt like an eternity for the olive raptor to find her voice, though when she did, her words came out high-pitched and strangled. "How long ago was this? Why didn't you ever tell me?" Rhojis cringed visibly. Things had just hit rock-bottom. This was exactly what he had been dreading. "I'm sorry... Alot's been happening. I was going to, but then we were captured-" "But what about all the time you had before that?" The olive raptor growled loudly. "Well I just... I had other things on my mind, and-" "Meaning you forgot? How could you just... forget that our father died? How?!" Sylicora screeched, recoiling another few steps backwards, claws flexing as some of her shock was replaced by a burning anger. Feeling his own temper rising, as well as a strange, cold fear spreading through him, Rhojis took a few steps toward her, spreading his arms in a hopeless shrug. "No, I didn't forget! But what do you think I should've done? Spilled you the story as soon as we met so you could carry the same guilt and pain as I did with you wherever you went? So it could hurt and disrupt you every day of your life like it did me?" Sylicora took a threatening step forward, pulling back her lips in a snarl. "Yes! I would want you to be honest with me and not try to bury things hoping they'll just disappear!" With that, she turned to walk back the way they'd come, but with a low growl, Rhojis moved to stand in front of her, mismatched eyes gleaming, quills raised. "You don't know the half of it!" he hissed in a dangerously quiet tone. "You've never had to live with the crippling guilt that comes with practically killing a member of your own family! You weren't there to see the Spinosaur crush him like compy while you shivered in a cave-" "STOP IT!" Sylicora shrieked, surging forward and ramming Rhojis out of the way with her shoulder, bolting away into the night, leaving the gray raptor alone, stunned and fuming...
