Atlas chuckled as he looked back at Lydia, shrugging. "I would've thought that'd be the easiest answer" he said as he took a sip of the iced tea, continuing. "A share of the spoils, and freedom to use the results of the project if I wish" he finished...

Lydie nodded, her suspicions confirmed. "I thought so." She let out a sigh, giving the lock of hair wrapped around her finger a hard tug, wrestling with her own instincts to keep the project limited, and knowing that if what Atlas said was true, they'd get a lot farther with his help. "I'd need to talk to the others," she said, half to herself. "I don't know how they'd react to this..."

"I have the solution to your current setbacks, I believe. You're going through test subjects quickly, and are getting nowhere. I can solve both issues, given the chance" said Atlas as he set his drink down. "Your companions are free to refuse my offer, if they wish. But I assure you it would not be in the interests of your project"...

At the top of a near-empty apartment building, a tray that once contained a cheap, microwave dinner was picked up from a scratched, dented kitchen table and tossed into a nearby trash bin. Adriana glanced around at the once sparklingly clean room, trying not to think of too many memories that went with it. The teen had been attempting to clean up some of the debris since the accident- or whatever it had been, and thought the apartment at least looked a little bit better than it had three weeks ago. At first it surprised her that nobody seemed to have noticed that one of the building's residents vanished into thin air, leaving behind an apartment that had been thoroughly turned upside down. She thought the other residents must have known something was amiss however, judging by the fact that most had moved out within the first week of the event. The teen paced across the kitchen and into the living room, tracing restless circles across the partially-vacuumed floor, stopping only to glance out the sliding glass door that lead to a small balcony on the front of the building. After a moment of thought, she clicked open the lock, pulled the door open, and did what she usually did when she was restless. The floor rushed up at her as she shrank, her skin blackening, face pushing forward into a sharp beak. In a few seconds, a glossy raven stood in her place, glancing back at the ruins inside before flapping up to the wrought iron railing and pushing off with several fast beats of its ebony wings. It climbed upward, flying in a large ark, and finally landed lightly on the low brick lip of the building's flat roof. Seconds after it landed, it began to warp and stretch, two legs becoming four, feathers becoming fur, its beak shortening into a feline muzzle. Now in the form of the previous next-door neighbor's gray tabby, the shape shifter continued her pacing along the brick wall, always inches from a fifteen-story drop. Somehow the thrill of danger helped take her mind away from the usual gnawing feeling of loss and pointlessness...

A few blocks down from where Tiffany's apartment was one of the local bars, called the Stynx. It was a modest place, not very big, but it drew in it's crowds for having great beer and wine. Seated down at one of the tables, was a middle-aged man, wearing a large black trenchcoat, black pants, and a alrge brown hat over his head. He had his head low, so that no one could tell just who he was, but even with his cclothing on, his wrestler-like physique was noticable. He was drinking a bottle of Vodka, or rather what was left of it, while fiddling around with a small wooden smoking pipe in hsi right hand. His eyes darted from left to right, the man being extra-cautious...

Max entered his home and began to watch television, to see what had happened in the meantime. He learned of the robot attacks, the shooting by the cybernetic being, and numerous car crashes, along with the huge explosion at Holden-corp.

"What a surprise.... always trouble in this city, even when it ain't much..."

He soon shut off the TV. Shadowy energy began to surround Max, as if trying to engulf him. He smirked before talking to himself.

"Well, Mortum, the time of justice is upon us..."

Max's form completely transforms now, clad in his trademark armor. His sapphire eyes blazed in his dark room, and he drew his blade, which glowed with great power.

"You have not failed me, not for the past 15 years; you will not fail me tonight either."

With that, the Dark Knight jumped out of his window and headed into the city...

Aya soon pulled her cruiser in to the station and yawned, before taknig her own car out of the station and heading home....

Kala stayed silent as Galaak finished his work, gazing in the general direction of where Zakai's ship likely was. He certainly hoped this would go smoothly... if only so he could have the pleasure of cutting Zakai's head off himself...

Lydia reached up with one hand to rub her temples, in an effort to suppress the headache she felt coming on. She let out a long, quiet sigh. "I - I'm sorry," she murmured. "This is a little much to take in." She slid a few more dollar coins onto the bar next to her empty glass, asking the bartender, "Can I get a refill?" The wine would steady her admittedly shaken nerves. She'd been under the impression that none of the people involved in the project would dare speak of it, for fear of being dragged off the streets by the cops. However, it looked like an insider had broken their unspoken oath of secrecy. That was the only explanation she could come up with for Atlas knowing as much as he did. And frankly, if someone had squealed, that put her back to the wall; she'd have to find out who, and then....she didn't know what then. Likely that person would become a test subject themselves.

Zakai's patience was already wearing thin a couple of hours ago. After realizing that Kala wouldn't be leaving that building on foot, especially out in the open, he called his men back. Zakai suspected by this point that the Ascatian had turned on him, and it came as little surprise. Instead, he stayed focused, coming up with another plan. If he couldn't sniff the two out, he'd be more than happy to lure them out. Obviously, the explorer had some sympathy for the human natives. What better way to drag him and his new friend out of hiding than to threaten the very conveniently-placed metropolis whose doorstep he was practically on? Zakai had to suppress a chuckle as he busied himself in the ship's cockpit, having already sent Selk back to get suited up. An obvious trap? Most definitely. But the chances of them ignoring such an immediate threat was going to be next to impossible. Either he lured them right into his claws, or he killed more than his fair share of primitive Earth mammals. A win-win situation either way, as he figured...

"It's alright, Lydia. Didn't expect it to be easy. I understand it's a bit of a shock" said Atlas as he put a 5 dollar bill on the table, sliding it forward ahead of Lydia's own dollar coins. "On me" said the man, the bartender eyeing the two for a moment, eventually taking the 5 dollar note, soon returning with another glass of sherry for the girl, before returning to work. "..

The mysterious man looked around nervously once more, before he placed a $20 down on the table and made his way out of the bar. Once he was out, he looked again at the wooden smoking pipe as he headed into a nearby alleyway. On the side of the pipe was the letter B, carved in cursive. The man reached up and took off his hat, revealing underneath his short silvery hair. His face was rough, and his eyes were completely white, aside from his tiny black pupils. This pipe... it was a mystery to him, ever since he had found it 4 years ago... But he was beginning to suspect...

A loud noise from the other end of the alley caught his attention. Instantly, he put the pipe in his mouth and put back on his hat, before he looked over. As he watched, a large trash can bounced toward him, before stopping just at his feet. He glared at it, then over at the side of the alley it had come flying from, before he headed back the way he came. Whatever it was that did that, he didn't want to find out...

The woman muttered her thanks, taking an admittedly large mouthful of the alcohol, ignoring the burn. She let out a small sigh as she put the coins back in her pocket. For just an instant she wished she had a cigarette, just for the sake of relieving a little stress, then banished the thought. She didn't smoke, refused to sacrifice her health over a temporary fix. After a brief internal struggle, she said, "So where do we go from here?"

"Tomorrow morning, you meet me in the hospital. Oh, and make sure Sam is with you. I'm sure he'll be pleased to see me" said Atlas with a smile. "If you have trouble convincing him, just tell him my name. That should iron out any issues he may have with leaving his work to greet me" he added as he drank the last of his iced tea...

Mortum moved quick across the landscape, almost moving like a man on a bicycle despite his lack of vehicular movement. His blade was lowered behind him and his body was crouched low to the ground, in order to allow him maximum speed. In a few moments, he had reached the edge of the city: the lights lined the sides of the street, and there were few people out and about, save for some partiers and suspicious looking figures.

"Hmmm.... let us go," the shadowed being said to himself as he climbed a nearby building and headed deeper into the city....

As the late night crept up on aya, her home soon came into view: a small, snuggly, one story building, with a small lawn out in front. With a yawn, the officer pulled into her garage, before shutting it. She soon headed into her house and turned on the TV, watching some late night television to calm her nerves. It had been a long, crazy day for her. Not only did she get one of the wierdest cases she'd had in many months, but she also learned of her nemesis's plans and one of the largest factories in the city had just exploded. She hoped tomorrow would be a bit less crazy.

Lydia froze, her drink halfway between the bar and her mouth. In seconds it all clicked. Sam. Of course he knows one of us - he'd have to - but Sam? I thought he, of all of us, would be the last person to tell an outsider... Slowly she set down her glass so she wouldn't end up dropping it, trying to ignore the ever-so-slight shaking of her hand. "Of....of course," she said, hating the way her small hesitation betrayed her shock. Already she was tracing the route from her house to Sam's, noting when she'd have to leave...her mind was going through the motions even though her heart had jumped into her throat and then settled somewhere in the region of her stomach. "Where will you be waiting? The lobby?"

"You have the liberty of deciding the location. I'll meet you wherever you decide to wait. Though the Lobby seems convenient, if you'd prefer it" responded Atlas, his face blank, though he was amused at the shock. She obviously thought she knew her collegue well...naive, but convenient...

The strange canine looked over when sounds of eating reached its ears, spotting the stray consuming a bit of food that fell out of the trash. Had the dog actively stolen from him, the beast would've responded in a not so pleasant way. But for the moment, the other animal was not bothering him, and instead he focused back on his trash can gourmet...

Like an angel of the night, Mortum lept from building to building with surprising speed, though sometimes he was a bit less than graceful and missed his step, needing to get a firm grasp upon the tough buildings before pulling himself up.

"F*ck, I'm getting too old for all these acrobatics..." Mortum growled to himself on the third slipup.

However, he heard a voice nearby. This voice sounded panicked and scared, before he heard another, firm voice, which said, "Shut up, *****!" and he heard the previous voice scream in pain. Growling, Mortum began his journey onward again, pinpointing the voice and getting ready for action.

It was finally complete now. Galaak stepped back from his creation and watched as it began to move. First were its metal fingers, which twitched several times before gripping the edge of the table it laid on. The robot lifted it's upper body and gazed upon its creator with a single green "eye" at the center of the droid's spherical form. The eye was a green panel that fit dead center on the robot's torso, in the space created by its two locked metal plates. Soon after, it hopped off of the table and onto the metal floor with not so much as a sound. The droid stood about 5 feet tall, with most of that height coming from its legs. The virus, along with its explosive payload were secured within its frame. "Our soldier. Succeed or fail, it will hinder our opponents quite a bit. The only issue left to deal with is when do we launch our attack..." Galaak said as he proceeded to remove his gloves, the many robotic arms and other machinery beginning to return to their place, hidden behind segments of walls...

JoJo raised his muzzle from the empty can when the wolf-like animal turned its gaze upon him. At first, the stray Doberman was still as a statue, but when the other canine returned its attention to feeding, he instantly relaxed again. With his hunger far from satisfied, he tried his luck and started making a pleading, whimpering noise. His snout was pointed to the concrete and his eyes were looking up to show submission to the larger creature. If his bid worked, he could partake in the trash feast as well, though he was prepared to bolt away from the scene should the bestial canine get tired of his presence.
