"Oh yes. In fact, those visitors are still here. Take a good look around." Gallows meowed, walking to the skeleton of an opossum, sitting next to the skull of the belated marsupial...

"Oh, I'm very much aware. One could smell them from across the Thunderpath. A shame they're not as talkative as they are smelly, however. If they were, you could almost say this would be a satisfactory place to live" growled the tom lowly...

Gallows noticed a lizard scampering across his path. He instantly pinned the reptile's tail under his paw, then lifting his head back to Wraith.

"Well, they didn't really take too well to my lack of... how should I put it... normality." Gallows purred as he pawed at the lizard, his claws currently sheathed in his paws. He seemed to be playing with his food...

"Normality is a matter of perspective. One cat's ordinary is another's bizarre" purred the pitch black tom, his amber eyes shimmering by the cave entrance, experienced eyes reading the rogue below like a book...

Gallows picked up the lizard in his mouth as it flailed and shook, trying to escape the feline's mouth, before teeth sank into the reptile's head, skewering its small skull. The rogue carried the dead lizard to his den, preparing to eat the deceased critter.

"Ah. Well, let's just say that I'm not your ordinary rogue." Gallows mewed with a somewhat full mouth...

"Anyone with eyes to see and a nose to smell could tell you that. However, out of the ordinary does not necessarily mean better. Tell me, have you....seen anyone else scattering bones around the grounds they 'claim' as their own?" purred the tom, a malignant glint in his eyes as he eyed this self-constructed 'monster'. It was an amusing sight, to see a Rogue litter his implied turf with bones and other unsavory things for the sake of creating an image. Its effectiveness however, was arguable...

Drawn by the overpowering reek of carrion, a young dog fox was nearing the rogue's den. The smell of death and decay overpowered his own, drowning any warning any other creature may have had, and the noise of the environment helped mask his paw steps. His vibrant, healthy coat signified a male at the height of his prime. Muscles flexed beneath his pelt as he padded forward, his ears pricked and twitching as he followed the scent. He would not be the only fox lured here, and it would be best for him to get in, snatch what he could, and leave before the competition became fierce.

Mistpool padded to the medicine cat's den after taking a moment to collect her thoughts. She'd need to ask Littlefern what she had already tried and what hadn't worked. It was probably going to be a long battle, and the longer she stayed the more at risk she was for catching the disease herself. With a small shudder, the tabby meowed a soft greeting and stepped inside. She found Littlefern, a small, spotted brown she-cat, sitting with her back to the den entrance and a defeated slope to her shoulders. That definitely wasn't a good sign...

The fog that scattered around the area was somewhat thicker by the moment. Gallows started to devour the lizard, ripping off bits of flesh from the reptile's corpse. The ghostly cat licked his face, cleaning the lizard blood from his fur, before concentrating on his paw.

"Not that I know of. Although I do find it wise to stay out of a place with several bones in it, especially if it has your own kind. Wouldn't that be basically suicide?" the cat responded in between licks...

"Bones mean food. Food means opportunity. Suicide to one is survival to another" responded Wraith cryptically as he smirked...

"Tell that to the skunk over there. Or how about the coyote? I'm pretty sure they're willing to talk- but I must assure you, they are the quiet type." Gallows mewed as he sharpened his claws on the hollow log near his den...

"Hmm...Overconfidence is one of your more outstanding traits, it seems. I look forward to seeing how well that goes for you" purred the dark-pelted tom with a smirk, pointed fangs glinting as he eyed Gallows, the black tom making his way towards the trees. His senses told him there was very little to this cat than met the eye. A rogue trying to be intimidating, yet failing miserably. Odds are other rogues would sooner laugh at his actions than consider him a viable ally. Thus, his value had promptly diminished. And with it, so too had Wraith's motivation to stay here. The former Shadowclan Warrior turned his back on Gallows once he was a sufficient distance from the cat, disappearing amidst the trees, gone as suddenly as he came. As Leaf-Bare came round, the hungry foxes, cats and the odd badger would soon dispose of this pretender...

"Hey, do you feel...off?" Tiberium meowed after a stretch of silence since the two left the Treecut Place "...I don't know. How would you define feeling 'On'?" Ferallion asked after a moment of actual consideration. "Like your coat feels heavier?" Tiberium asked. "A little. The air around that place is... well lets just say twolegs can manage to ruin things you can't even see" the gray tom answered. "Right...and I don't think normal grooming will take care of this..." Tiberium began to say, Ferallion's eyes widening slightly. "You insisted we look" He mewed lowly. Tiberium only smiled sheepishly. "I know you don't like water but licking yourself after running around a twoleg place doesn't seem like the smart thing to do" he said. "This is true" Ferallion agreed, though his expression was that of an ill mood. He would not enjoy...bathing.

The young fox pressed onward, his nose twitching. All of these animals were long dead...no. That was wrong. There was something alive here, something feline...something alone....the canine licked his lips. There were cats around here that lived in large groups that could fight off even the most hungry, determined fox...but a lone cat would make for a tasty snack.

Gallows walked into his den, curling up against a wall of mud, before he closed his eyes and fell into a deep slumber...

The scent was getting stronger. The fox was trying to move cautiously, picking his way around the bones and trying to put his paws down lightly. He was beginning to notice that he was not alone; flickers of red in the corner of his vision hinted at another fox, loping along with a confident gait. The first fox curled his lip away from his teeth, but starting a fight wasn't a smart idea. If he wanted to be full-fed, he needed to be quiet - sneak in, grab the cat, and get away before competition heated up.

It wasn't long before Wraith found himself, once more, walking amidst the clusters of trees and bushes that formed the neutral territories. He found his legs taking him in the direction of Thunderclan. The disease and death that lingered over his former Clan had to be avoided. If too many cats got sick, it would soften the ranks for whatever other threats floated on the borders of the Clans...And things would only deteriorate from there...

Re: Warriors RPG (V2)

An eerie wailing went up from where the sick cats were confined. An elder whose face was drenched in blood was nuzzling the tiny, lifeless body of a kitten. The sight and sound sent a chill into Mistpool's heart; that was the second cat who had died since her arrival, and the fourth to succumb to blood loss. Cedarstar had lost another life to it; he'd been moved out of his den at her insistence, away from the disgusting, sickness-tainted blood, and though he was weak and grief-stricken at what was happening to his Clan, he seemed to have finally stopped bleeding.

That was hardly of any comfort to Mistpool, however. It had taken his death twice over to cure it, and nothing the two medicine cats had tried had worked. Was there nothing that could be done? Would the sick cats simply die?

Littlefern seemed to think so; the small she-cat's amber eyes were dull with grief and exhaustion. "There's nothing more we can do," she mewed, looking sadly at the remaining sick cats. Once the order had been given not to touch or groom them, no others had fallen sick; but there were still bodies to be buried. "We can only watch them die...and hope it doesn't start spreading again."

The thought made Mistpool feel sick at heart. "No," she mewed softly. "There is something we can do..." She glanced toward the bright red berries that Littlefern kept carefully apart from the rest of her herb stores. "We can end their suffering," the blue-gray tabby murmured.

Littlefern closed her eyes for a long moment, and Mistpool thought that the thought of more dead cats might just break the tiny medicine cat. Then the ShadowClan cat gave a slow nod. "Go talk to the sick," she mewed. "Tell them this is the only option we have." She turned and carefully dabbed a paw at the berries, her reluctance clear. Mistpool understood why. Medicine cats were supposed to save lives...not take them.

She padded across the clearing slowly, passing cats who stared with blank, stunned eyes at what was befalling their Clan, and her heart twisted with pity at what she had to do. She stopped before the sick cats, took a deep breath, and meowed, "Littlefern and I have had an idea...we don't know how to cure you...but we can stop your pain." She looked at the uncomprehending stares, and added, "We can give you deathberries...and you won't have to suffer any longer."

After a long silence, Mudsplash, who had been moved to stay with the confined cats, struggled to her paws. Her nose was wet with blood, and her eyes were bright with pain. She meowed in a voice hoarse from coughing up blood, "There's no other option?" Mistpool could only shake her head in silence. it killed her to have to say this, to have to tell these cats there was no hope. They simply didn't know what to do. "Then do it," Mistpool growled after another heavy pause. "Save my Clan - that's what you were brought here to do." The sick deputy sat back down and turned her head away, only looking back when Littlefern came padding up with the deathberries, carefully held on a leaf.

"I'm so sorry," the ShadowClan medicine cat whispered. "We did all we could...."

"StarClan will honor you both," Mudsplash rasped. She bent down and carefully licked up three of the berries, chewed and swallowed, then curled up and waited for them to take effect. Slowly, the other two cats followed her lead, and though Mistpool closed her eyes, she wished she could close her ears to the gasping breaths Mudsplash was taking as the deathberries gradually stole her ability to breathe.

Weaving between tree branches, Wraith made his way past the Thunderclan border, heading for the camp. He didn't intend to wait for the patrols to show up and find him. He was patient, but not that patient. Especially not now, when his news could end up preventing disaster...

As the bodies were carefully maneuvered out of the camp, the healthy warriors under strict orders not to use their teeth or lick their paws once the dead were buried, Cedarstar rasped as loudly as he could in his weakened state, "Come here, all of you." As the Clan gathered, he looked at Mistpool and meowed, "You can go home after this..." The blue-gray tabby gave a small nod, looking down at her paws.

"Mudsplash is dead," the ShadowClan leader mewed. "And since it would be unwise for us to share tongues with her body, it is once again my duty - much too soon - to name a new deputy." He bowed his head and was silent for so long that Mistpool wondered if he'd even made a decision. Just when confused murmurs began to break out, the Clan leader raised his head and meowed, "I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors, and the spirit of Mudsplash, may hear and approve my choice."

Cedarstar looked around, looking for the one he'd chosen. Most of the Clan were focused on Crowfur, and the arrogant way he held his head showed he expected to be chosen. Crowfur had been the most critical of Mudsplash's decisions, and it was no secret that he'd been hoping to be made deputy when she herself had been named for the position. Mistpool remembered overhearing him at Gatherings, whispering that if he were deputy, things would be different.

"Twistedjaw will be the new deputy of ShadowClan!" Cedarstar announced. Mistpool couldn't help her gasp, and she wasn't the only one surprised. Crowfur looked as though he'd just lost a juicy bit of prey and was lashing his tail mutinously. The light brown tabby tom rose to his paws slowly, his amber eyes dull. He meowed softly, "I never expected to be named deputy...with Mudsplash's blessing, I will serve ShadowClan to the best of my ability." As he spoke, the wind gave a soft sigh and rustled the undergrowth, and for just a moment, the stench of disease was swept out of the camp.

In ThunderClan's camp, things had settled back down after Mistpool's sudden departure. Only the wary prick of Shadowstar's ears as she gnawed on a squirrel showed that she was worried. Twistedjaw's guarded responses had put her on alert; when Mistpool returned, she would have to ask the medicine cat just what was wrong with ShadowClan's leader.

"I trust you're already aware of the plight of your neighbours?" chimed Wraith's distinctly crisp voice in the trees a few feet from Shadowstar, shimmering amber eyes visible long before his well hidden outline became apparent. It was clear that he was very well versed in the art of stealth...
