"How did this slip the net?" questioned Jacob on a private channel, piggy-backing on the primary signal used by OWL via the Relativity Coil technology, to communicate with his employer directly. "This isn't just OWL we're dealing with, Jacob. I told you that at the beginning. There are dozens of mega corporations digging their claws into this, trying to take control of the operation. The funding has to come from somewhere. As it happens, I've twisted myself into a position where I'm the only thing protecting OWL from them. That's how I got you onto the scene at such short notice. But with how little time this whole operation has been going, you have to understand that I hadn't the opportunity to get all the information. I'm still sifting through the data as we speak" responded the man on the other end. "For ****'s sake, Atlas. We've been working together for the better part of two centuries. I know you're never that sloppy" responded Jacob hotly. "Yes. I am not. But I am not perfect, as much as I try to be. There is a lot of data in OWL's databases, as well as those of 15 different international organisations that managed to catch shards of the event before it got locked down. That kind of bulk takes time to get through" responded Atlas calmly. Jacob sighed, frustrated by the situation. ".....Right. So what happens now?" questioned the Mercenary after a long pause...
A sigh came on the other end of the line. "Well, as soon as news breaks of the destabilisation, odds are emergency procedures will be put in place. The Kill Switch....They'll collapse the portal. Cut it off before it can do any more damage" said Atlas slowly. "...Brilliant. Suppose it serves me right for offering to walk through hell for money like a bloody muppet...Suppose it's only convenient they 'forget' the coming back part of the deal. But what about the others? Kane, the other team, they're employees. They cou-" started Jacob, only to be cut off. "-And as such they have already signed disclaimers acknowledging that their lives are expendable should the situation arise. Granted, I'm fairly sure most if not all of them didn't read the fine print and missed that little detail. Doesn't change the fact that they have basically signed their own death warrants before starting their mission. OWL and those funding them won't be held responsible for it" responded Atlas with a practised calm. "....Bloody hell. So we're just going to be left to our fates in this inter-dimensional apocalyptic wasteland, forgotten by the people we serve? Oh, no. I'm not going to go out like that. I didn't promise David I'd keep an eye on his lad, just to end up getting killed off along with him in this hell-hole" said Jacob, his tone notably more angry than it had been in the beginning of the conversation. "You may not have a choice. Felicity isn't entirely under Kane's control, as much as he likes to think it. You won't be able to come back without a green light from this side"...
"Ah yes, organised chaos. the sign of a clever but ever-busy mind. To the perpetrator, a carefully woven web of belongings and intrigue, but to the bystander? Madness!"
